This afternoon I chaired a meeting of the administration’s enlargement task force. We know that, ratification process permitting, Croatia will become the 28th Member State of the European Union on 1 July 2013. That means that we will welcome nine new Croatian members to the Committee and will have to manage a new working language. The purpose of the task force is to make sure that we prepare properly for the event so that the Committee will continue to work smoothly and the new members will be welcomed and supported as they should be. In this afternoon’s meeting we looked at the Committee’s working methods and its basic documents and organs. Do we need to amend the rules of procedure? What size will the Bureau be? We also looked at budgetary and human resource implications and logistics. We think we’ve got all the bases pretty much covered but, as always, we’re working on it!
