airbusIt’s funny how just a few words can trigger a song in your mind. I couldn’t stop humming the tune (from the Mamas and the Papas’ hit) as the day galloped by. I think I had the following lyrics in mind in particular:
Monday, Monday, can’t trust that day
Monday, Monday, sometimes it just turns out that way
Oh Monday mornin’ you gave me no warnin’ of what was to be
Oh Monday, Monday, how could you leave and not take me?
The usual Monday morning coordination meeting with the Directors (a long one) was preceded and succeeded by a series of unforeseen meetings and visits and problems. To be honest, though, Monday did take me away. At four in the afternoon I galloped to the airport for a flight to Munich and from there to Naples, where the EESC’s Presidency will tomorrow be holding a seminar (that is, a top-level strategy meeting). As we were coming into land at Naples we met a mini air pocket and our Airbus did a few seconds’ worth of aerobatics, complete with engines revving like a Neapolitan ragazzo on his motorino. Fortunately, our plane was full of Italian schoolchildren and they did more than enough screaming for all of the grown-ups on board. Were we scared? Of course not!
